I have been on a mission for years to find a really good dairy free alternative to traditional Greek yogurt. And, let me tell you, it has been really hard to find. Most non-dairy yogurt options are loaded with sugar, taste bitter, have an unpleasant aftertaste taste and/or have a weird soupy or grainy texture. I’ve tried dozens of options. I kind of gave up hope … until I came across the best non-dairy yogurt alternative at Trader Joe’s a few weeks ago.
What Makes Trader Joe’s Non Dairy Yogurt Different?
The number one thing is the texture! I have tried other non-dairy yogurt options even at Trader Joe’s and the texture was always off. If you are going to be eating a “fake” yogurt, nothing is worse than being let down by the texture as soon as your spoon hits your mouth. That doesn’t happen at all with Trader Joe’s Organic Cashew Cultured Yogurt Alternative.
In fact, it’s the closest texture I’ve found to “regular” greek yogurt. Beyond the pleasing creamy texture, Trader Joe’s Organic Cashew Cultured Yogurt Alternative tastes amazing. There is no funky taste or aftertaste, which is especially hard to find in unsweetened yogurt alternatives. The texture is perfect!
What About the ingredients?
I think the key to the amazing texture and taste is the addition of coconut cream. The ingredients, minus the water and the live cultures, are all 100% organic – which is hard to find in non-dairy yogurt alternatives.
As I mentioned earlier, there is no added sugar in this yogurt, which makes it more appealing. Below is the full list of ingredients:
- Water
- Organic Cashews
- Organic Tapioca Starch
- Organic Locust Bean Gum
- Organic Coconut Cream (Organic Coconut, Water)
- Live Active Cultures (Streptococcus Thermophilus, Lactobacillus Bulgaricus, L. Acidophilus Bifidobacterium Bifidum, L. Lactis, L. Plantarum)
You can’t get much better or cleaner than these ingredients!
How to Eat/Serve Trader Joe’s Organic Creamy Cashew Cultured Yogurt Alternative?
Unlike other non-dairy yogurt alternatives, Trader Joe’s Organic Creamy Cashew Cultured Yogurt Alternative is tasty enough to eat plain. However, if you want to kick things up a notch, serve with some berries, pecan pieces and a teaspoon of Manuka honey (all of which you can also buy at Trader Joe’s). It’s so delicious … I can’t wait to go to Trader Joe’s to get more of this delicious non-dairy yogurt alternative.
