Over the past 10 years, I have come to really enjoy making smoothies. I started off back in the day making very simple smoothie recipes that featured maybe three ingredients tops. Over time, I have graduated to making a much more dynamic and multi-ingredient smoothie almost every day. I’ve even invested in a Vitamix blender which was definitely a worthy (although pricey) investment. As I have progressed with my smoothie making, I am now always looking to experiment and add exotic or new ingredients to my smoothie concoctions regularly.
However, as my smoothie recipes have evolved, the time it takes to make make a smoothie has also increased pretty dramatically. These days, it’s not unusual for my smoothies to take 10-15 minutes to prepare when you factor in cutting fruits and vegetables, and adding herbs, seeds, powders, collagen, probiotics, frozen fruits, etc. And based on my completely hectic work schedule, I am not always in the mood or have the energy to make a complex smoothie on a daily basis.
There are quicker options available. For many years, I have seen ready-to-blend freezer smoothie kits in the frozen food section of the grocery stores. However, I always passed them over. Last week, while filling my online cart for my latest Whole Foods delivery order, I stumbled upon Blendtopia’s Superfood Glow Smoothie Kit, which was on sale (33% off at Whole Foods). I was impressed by the blend of ingredients and decided to add it to my cart.
About Blendtopia Ready to Make Smoothie Kits
Blendtopia was founded in 2014 by a certified Raw Food and Holistic Nutritionist who is passionate about the healing power of whole food nutrition. Blendtopia, which started as an “aha” moment after the founder helped a friend with late stage cancer heal with whole food nutrition, is now available in Whole Foods Market, Kroger, Wegmans, Albertsons, Harris Teeter, Earth Fare and other grocery stores nationwide. You can even buy pre-made smoothie subscription boxes (e.g., Keto smoothie box, 7-day cleanse) or custom boxes directly from the Blendtopia website for shipment directly to your front door.
Initially, two things made me want to purchase Blendtopia Glow (BTW, in addition to the Glow blend, they have other amazing looking options available too like Energy Smoothie, Immunity Smoothie, Strength Smoothie, Keto Green Smoothie, Keto Berry Smoothie, Keto Chocolate Chair Smoothie and a Detox Smoothie).
First, all ingredients in their frozen smoothie kits are top notch. All smoothies are certified 100% organic (which is super important to me and many others), Non-GMO, gluten free, dairy free, soy free and vegan. Second, while the fruits and vegetables in the frozen Blendtopia Glow pouch are pretty standard (pineapples, bananas, mangos and spinach), I was intrigued by the seeds (hemp seeds and flax seeds) and the more exotic ingredients like turmeric, black pepper, goji berries and lucuma featured in the kit. I don’t think I have ever tried lucuma, which is a fruit native to South America, before I tried this smoothie.
It Can’t Be Any Easier: Just Drop it All in the Blender
When you open the Blendtopia Superfood Smoothie Kit pouch, you will see that it is packed with the frozen fruit, some spinach and what Blendtopia calls superfood chips, which are the other seeds, turmeric and the exotic fruit ingredients. All you have to do is pour the pouch into your blender with 12-14 fluid ounces of your liquid of choice. Blendtopia recommends using plant-based milks, diluted coconut water, diluted fruit juice or green tea as your liquid source.
I wound up using unsweetened almond milk as my chosen blending liquid, although I used a bit less than 12-14 fluid ounces. I like my smoothies on the thicker side. I didn’t add any thing else to the smoothie with the exception of a little probiotic powder.
The Verdict: A Must Buy!
The Blendtopia Glow smoothie was absolutely delightful. It was very flavorful and delicious, but more importantly, it was prepared and ready to drink in under two minutes. The smoothie is definitely a bit sweeter tasting than the smoothies I make from scratch, but I thoroughly enjoyed the taste overall. I am also blown away by the ingredients, the lack of any sketchy additives and the fact that all ingredients are 100% organic (even the spices!) – which is hard to find in most frozen smoothie kits.
I also stand behind Blendtopia’s mission to “provide the highest quality, most nutrient-rich products that are convenient, taste amazing and work wonders for your body.” I always feel inspired by companies like Blendtopia who go-to-market with high quality, clean and healthy products that can benefit the greater population. I firmly believe it is important to support smaller companies like Blendtopia who truly live their mission every day.
While I am not going to give up making my homemade smoothies, I think it will be super helpful to have a few of these Blendtopia frozen smoothie kits handy in my freezer for those extra busy days. In fact, I just added the Blendtopia Superfood Energy Smoothie Kit to my Whole Foods online shopping cart. I am excited to try that one next week! I recommend giving these kits a try … and they are still on sale at Whole Foods (at least for now).
