Healthier Beverages for Any Party or Gathering

It’s only a few hours away from the Super Bowl coin toss. Let’s face it; when you think of Super Bowl or any gathering, you likely think of people drinking beer, guzzling soda, and downing mixed drinks. However, those traditional Super Bowl/party beverages are laden with so many calories and sugar (and crappy ingredients).

Since you’re likely going to indulge in some snacks, chicken wings, burgers and other Super Bowl fare, you might as well reach for a healthy beverage. Whether you are planning to drink non-alcoholic or alcoholic beverages for the big game, there is still time to shop for healthier beverages and mixers. Here are some great options for the Super Bowl or any gathering:

1. Zevia Zero Calorie Soda

6 red cans of Dr. Zevia flavored Zevia Zero calorie soda

Zevia is a much better beverage option compared to traditional sodas. Zevia sodas, which can be found in most grocery stores and pharmacy chains these days, contain no sugar, no calories and are naturally sweetened. Hands down Zevia is a much healthier soda option compared to other sodas in the grocery stores.

Available Zevia soda flavors include Cola, Ginger Root Beer, Creamy Root Beer, Ginger Ale, Cream Soda, Black Cherry, Dr. Zevia (their version of Dr. Pepper), Grape, Cherry Cola, Mountain Zevia (their version of Mountain Dew), Caffeine Free Cola, Orange, Lemon Lime Twist, Grapefruit Citrus and Strawberry. There’s something for everyone! The ingredients list is simple and all flavors are sweetened with Stevia Leaf Extract. And there is no weird after taste.

Zevia sodas can be enjoyed as is or mixed with plain vodka if you are looking for a healthy version of “Vodka soda/cola.”

2. Zevia Mixers

Sticking with the Zevia brand, they also make three fabulous mixer options if you are planning to stick with mixed (alcoholic) drinks for Super Bowl. It’s important to note, though, that the Zevia Mixers are not as readily available as the Zevia sodas. (You can find the mixers at Whole Foods, Sprouts and healthy/natural food stores.)

Like the Zevia sodas but unlike other mixers, the Zevia Mixers are only sweetened with Zevia and only have a handful of natural ingredients. Three delicious varieties are available: Lemon Lime with Bitters Mixer, Tonic Water Mixer and Ginger Beer Mixer.

3. OLIPOP Sparkling Tonics

As its slogan says, OLIPOP is truly “a new kind of soda.” OLIPOP goes beyond other sodas on the market to include gut-healthy, prebiotic and fiber ingredients. So this healthy alternative to regular and diet sodas can actually improve your digestive health.

Beyond the gut-friendly ingredients, the OLIPOP Sparkling Tonics (as they are officially called) taste amazing. OLIPOP used to be harder to find than Zevia, but they are now available in Whole Foods, Sprouts, many regional grocery chains and in natural food stores.

You can indulge in the following OLIPOP flavors without any guilt: Vintage Cola, Classic Root Beer, Strawberry Vanilla, Orange Squeeze, Cherry Vanilla, Classic Grape and Ginger Lemon. Each flavor is sweetened with Stevia and natural fruit juices – and includes no cane sugar/other sugars. OLIPOP Sparkling Tonics are wonderful on their own and also can be mixed with your favorite liquor for an elevated mixed drink.

3. Q Ginger Ale

Ginger Ale is always one of the most intriguing soda options. It’s a little spicy and at the same time a little sweet. However, most ginger ales in supermarkets are super high in sugar and the diet options obviously contain those evil artificial sweeteners. Fear not, Q makes a flavorful and healthier ginger ale option without any suspect ingredients.

Available in both an elegant glass bottle and in 7.5 ounce cans, Q Ginger Ale is available at CVS Pharmacy, Whole Foods, local/regional grocery chains and at natural grocers nationwide.

The Q Ginger Ale has a delightful, spicy flavor. What you’ll likely appreciate the most is that Q Ginger Ale is only sweetened with organic agave and contains zero cane sugar. Besides the agave, the only ingredients in this healthier soda are ginger, rose oil, coriander, cardamom and orange peel. Nothing else!

4. Q Mixers

If you are definitely going the mixed drink route for Super Bowl or for any gathering, you might want to stock up on some Q Mixers. Like their Ginger Ale recommended above, all Q Mixers either have no sweeteners at all or are sweetened with organic agave nectar. You won’t find an ounce of cane sugar in any of the Q Mixers.

You’ll be blown away not only by the ingredients, but the flavorful and distinct varieties that they offer. For traditional mixers, they offer Classic Tonic Water, Classic Tonic Water, Light Tonic Water, Club Soda, Ginger Ale and Kola (their take on cola).

If you want to wow your guests, you might want to check out their Ginger Beer, Hibiscus Ginger Beer, Tropical Ginger Beer, Light Ginger Beer, Sparkling Grapefruit and Elderflower Tonic Water varieties. If you are feeling extra fancy, you might want to pick up their Bloody Mary and Margarita mixes. Like the Ginger Ale, all Q Mixer varieties are available in 7.5 ounce cans and glass bottles.

5. FitAid Recovery

If you do decide to imbibe in alcoholic beverages for the Super Bowl or any gathering, you might want to pick up one of these vitamin-enriched FitAid Recovery beverages to help your body recover. After all, you will want to be bright-eyed and ready to roll for work the next morning.

FitAid Recovery is meant for athletic recovery but it is packed with essential vitamins (C, D3, E, B vitamins, etc.) and minerals (calcium and magnesium) plus BCAAs, Glucosamine, CoQ10 and Omega-3s. These ingredients can help you from getting headaches and feeling sluggish the next day after drinking alcohol or consuming a lot of sugar.

While the flavor is very citrusy, this carbonated beverage is only sweetened with agave and stevia. Beyond athletic recovery and recovering from drinking alcohol, this beverage is also great to drink after a sauna session.

You can find FitAid Recovery in Walmart, The Vitamin Shoppe, Whole Foods, Sprouts and in grocery chains nationwide.
